Brave Raideen Fan Club/RFC] Tadao Nagahama's New Year's Day Gathering at Ryogoku Public Hall Program Pamphlet (1978) [勇者ライディーン FC/RFC] お正月! 全員集合 - 長浜忠雄 両国公会堂で新年の集い - 昭和53年 (1978)
A bit of Brave Raideen history I'm archiving today: the official program pamphlet for the Raideen Fan Club (勇者ライディーン FC) & Tadao Nagahama's all day New Years celebration that was held at Ryogoku Public Hall (両国公会堂/ Sumida Ward, Tokyo) on January 7, 1978.
One of the many texts I acquired from M while in Hyogo. These, among several from the Raideen FC, Slapstick and letters from Makio Inoue to name a few belonged to his friend who passed away a long while ago. M's friend left him the estate and he let me have all of the books so long as I archived them. M's friend was an organizer with this particular club, though I only own a few books from this particular imprint.
This is possibly one of the most important of my possessions for the archive now, this fan club was a landmark in young women not only bolstering the popularity of a singular series, but also for the fact that Tadao Nagahama financially supported many of their efforts personally. The Brave Raideen FC boasted a membership of over 1000+ at its peak and lasted well into the early 1980s, years after Brave Raideen had been off of the air.
The group went on to not only support Raideen, but Tadao Nagahama's Robot Romance series alongside other works such as Mobile Suit Gundam, Zambot 3 and Daltanious. Osamu Ichikawa, Prince Sharkin's VA, was a major supporter alongside Makio Inoue, Akira Kamiya, the mangaka Keiko Takemiya, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, Yoshiyuki Tomino and Makoto Kosaka. Originally, many of the members were late high school age girls and college age women, though later on including males of the same demographic by late 1977.
The Raideen FC didn't seem to dissolve until after Tadao Nagahama's passing as they continued to hold events up until 1981 to 1982 (Yasuhiko famously created a painting of Akira & Sharkin for the group), though the program came with a film clipping and boasted lots of events. Based on the information, cells were given out to almost everyone who attended and everyone, depending on the color of their program, would receive a present.
Voice actors from Raideen and the Robot Romance series came to answer questions and gave our gifts from overseas. From 9:00 to 12:30, selected episodes were screened, including the 1st episode of Zambot 3. From 1:00 to 2:40 appears to be a seat shuffling, the interviews and festivities, and the rest of the day was screenings until 8:00 at night. A full day of meet ups, screenings and fun!
