Personal Collection: [Satoko Yamane] Anime Fan Club Magazine Dendenmushi Vol. 3 (1979) [山根佐多子] アニメ同好会会誌 えんでんむし Vol.3 (1979) 昭和54年
Sakoto Yamane's BL/yaoi journal Dendenmushi (Snail), based on the 1972 fanzine imprint Dendenmushimushi, which featured the work of Osamu Akimoto before he began drawing Kochikame. As a journal, this book was heralded by high school age fans and was more or less Yamane's personal journal / magazine. Based on the information present, there isn't a date on this particular book, however, context clues suggest 1979 as it was announced within the previous volume that was based on Farewell Space Battleship Yamato.
The sale price hand written on the back and additional context information suggests that this work was sold at Comiket, though which is uncertain. as it mentions the explosive boom around Yamato in August of the previous year (referring to the historic release of the movie Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato in August 1978), noting its wide fanbase from kids to college students and the extensive commercial merchandising (snacks, erasers, bags). A date however is given for publication all the same.
From the author:
"First of all, I am very sorry for the delay in publication. This is entirely due to my lack of experience.
Now, how did you like the 1-page parody version of Voltes V? As the author, I feel like it didn't really turn out to be much of a 1-page parody, the story is sluggish, and the artwork still has a long way to go... Anyway.
Some readers might be wondering, "What kind of club magazine is Dendenmushi, suddenly doing a story-driven piece like this?"
To be honest, as an anime club, we are keeping that in mind [Note: a word was crossed out here in the original text]. But the thing is, we want to try our hand at all sorts of different things. This is a new challenge for us.
Please let us know your thoughts and opinions!"
Shio Sato (Haruka Sato, later Simone Yotsuya), then 16 or 17, worked on page 16 with Satoko on two panels. One of Sato's earliest manuscripts was in this particular fanclub.
